Case#: 12 Fluctuating Spinal Stenosis Aggravated by the UPRIGHT ® Extension Position
A posterior disc herniation at L3-4 is visualized in the neutral seated position, with circumferential bulging that cause moderate stenosis of the central spinal canal. The stenosis diminishes in flexion. In extension, extrusion of disc material at L3/4 increases the stenosis resulting in increased severity of the patient's spinal stenosis which is underestimated in the neutral-sit position. The findings describe a fluctuating spinal stenosis that significantly worsens on extension.
